The English footballer Daniel Sturridge, sentenced in July to six weeks of sanction and 75,000 pounds (87,000 euros) of fine for illegal bets, saw his penalty increased to four months away from all football activity. The sanction will end on June 18, 2020, the English Federation said in a statement.
The FA Appeals Committee also doubled the fine initially imposed on the former Liverpool player, who is currently 30 years old. Sturridge asked his brother to bet on his eventual transfer to Seville in January 2018, according to an independent commission to the FA. Finally, Sturridge was transferred to West Bromwich on January 28, 2018, after the failure of negotiations with Sevilla.
After the increase of the sanction, Sturridge and the Turkish Trabzonspor, club for which he signed this season, reached an agreement to break the contract. Sturridge, 26 times international with England (the last in 2017), began his career at Manchester City, before signing for Chelsea in 2009 and then for Liverpool in 2013.
