Steven Gerrard, new Aston Villa manager

MADRID, 11 Nov. (EUROPA PRESS) –

Aston Villa announced on Thursday the hiring of Steven Gerrard as a new coach in place of Dean Smith, dismissed last Monday due to the bad streak that the ‘Villains’ are going through in the Premier League where they have lost their last five games.

The London team is entrusted to the renowned English ex-midfielder, who has decided to accept this offer and end his time at Glasgow Rangers, his first major club and who made him Scottish champion last year.

“Gerrard, 41, has attracted many fans to this game for his work to transform the fortunes of the Glasgow Ranges, while implementing an attractive and offensive style of football,” celebrated Aston Villa.

For his part, Gerrard arrives at a club “with a rich history and tradition in English football.” “I am immensely proud to become their new coach. In my conversations, it became clear how ambitious their plans are for the club and I am eager to help them achieve their goals,” he said on the Villa website.

“I would like to express my sincere thanks to everyone associated with Glasgow Rangers for giving me the opportunity to lead such an iconic football club. Helping them achieve the 55th league title will always hold a special place in my heart. I would like to wish to his players, staff and fans the best for the future, “he added.
