BARCELONA, 25 Feb. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Greek tennis player Stefanos Tsitsipas, number four in the world, has confirmed his participation in the 69th edition of the Barcelona Open Banc Sabadell-Trofeo Conde de Godó, which will be held from April 16 to 24 on the courts of the Real Club de Tenis Barcelona-1899 , inform the organizers.
The Greek will be one of the great favorites to lift the title in Barcelona, after being a finalist twice (2018 and 2021), both against the Spanish Rafa Nadal. At 23 years old, Tsitsipas has reached 200 professional victories this week and is called to dominate world tennis for the next few years.
“I am very happy to return to Barcelona, one of my favorite tournaments,” said Tsitsipas, who since turning professional has never missed a tournament that he has ‘marked in red’ on his clay court calendar.
Tsitsipas’s game is adapted to the clay of the Godó courts, where he has accumulated ten wins and three losses. Precisely, in his debut in 2018 he reached the final, the first of his career, and he discovered himself before the world as one of the great racket talents at just 19 years old.
In last year’s edition, he brushed the title in an epic final against Rafa Nadal, who decided in favor of the Spaniard in three sets and 3 hours and 38 minutes of play, 6-4, 6-7(6), 7 -5.
The Greek, a finalist at Roland Garros 2021, has seven titles to his name (18 finals), highlighting the 2019 Nitto ATP Finals and the Masters 1,000 in Monte Carlo last year. He is one of the most versatile players out there and his performance on clay (three titles and eight finals) make him a very dangerous player on the RCTB-1899 courts.
