MADRID, 26 Dic. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The former Portuguese footballer and coach Joao Pereira was dismissed this Thursday as coaches of Sporting Clube de Portugal, just after eight games directing the team, of which Rui Borges, also a Portuguese, now takes the reins, according to the entity.
Through a message on its social networks, the club thanked Pereira, a former Benfica, Valencia and Sporting CP player, among others, for his work leading the first team bench, after being chosen to replace Rúben Amorim after his departure to Manchester United.
But the results have not been with him, and in the eight games that he has led the bench he has had three victories – only one in the League -, one draw and four defeats – two in the Champions League and two in the League -. However, the team is second in the domestic championship, just one point behind the leader, and in the Champions League, seventeenth, forced not to fail any more to advance, at least, to the playoffs.
Without Pereira, now begins the stage of Rui Borges, 43 years old, who directed Vitoria Guimaraes. He began his coaching career in 2017 and has always managed the benches of Portuguese teams, after a career as a footballer that spanned 17 years.
