Spanoulis, new Greek coach

MADRID, 2 Oct. (EUROPA PRESS) –

Vassilis Spanoulis, one of the great players of Greek basketball, will take charge of the men’s team for the next two seasons, with the main mission of seeking the ticket to Paris 2024 in one of the Pre-Olympic Tournaments next summer, as confirmed this Monday the Greek Basketball Federation.

Spanoulis, 41, arrives to fill the position left by Dimitris Itoudis, fired last September after the poor performance of the Greek team in the World Cup held in Japan, Indonesia and the Philippines.

The former player, retired at the end of the 2020-2021 season and who is the current coach of Peristeri, will try to contribute his great experience on the fields and a track record where a total of three Euroleagues stand out at the club level (two with Olympiacos and one with Panathinaikos), while at the international level he was a member of the team that won world silver in 2006 against Spain, continental champion in 2005 and European bronze in 2009.
