The Spanish futsal referee Alejandro Martínez Flores was chosen this Thursday as ‘best referee in the world in 2024’ by the Futsalplanet website, which awards recognized awards at an international level, highlighting the level of the Murcian referee.
Martínez Flores began his career as a referee in 1995 and made his debut in the First Division in the 2007/2008 season. After progressively standing out, the Murcian began a successful international career in 2015 that has led him to referee in European Championships, the UEFA Futsal Champions League, as well as the World Cup.
In the last World Cup held in Uzbekistan, the couple made up of Alejandro Martínez Flores and Juan José Cordero Gallardo was in charge of directing the final between Brazil and Argentina, the first Spanish couple to direct this match.
In this way, Alejandro Martínez Flores becomes the fourth Spanish referee to receive this award after Pedro Ángel Galán Nieto (2004), Fernando Gutiérrez Lumbreras (2012, 2013, 2016) and Juan José Cordero Gallardo (2019, 2021).
