The Spanish women’s basketball team will face Belgium in the quarter-finals of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games next Wednesday at 2:30 p.m., after the end of the group stage and the relevant draw, on a path to medals that would not involve the United States until the final.
Miguel Méndez’s team, who on Saturday achieved a full victory in their Group A against Serbia, were waiting for their opponent, which will be Belgium, who beat Japan on Sunday, 58-85, to finish third in Group C. Thus, the Spanish and Belgian teams will face each other again, in a repeat of last year’s Eurobasket final.
In the first tournament with Méndez on the bench, the Spanish team lost the gold medal match, just as it lost in Charleroi this summer, during the second stop in preparation for the Games. Two rivals who know each other well and a chance for revenge for a Spain that, if it wins, would face the winner of France-Germany in the semi-finals.
