MADRID, 15 Ago. (EUROPA PRESS) –

Spain has achieved the first medal at the European Athletics Championships in Munich (Germany), which will take place from Monday to August 21, thanks to the silver achieved in the team category in the women’s marathon.

In a marathon won by the Polish athlete Aleksandra Lisowska with a time of 2:28:36, the silver medal went to the Croatian Matea Parlov Kostro and the bronze to the Dutch Nienke Brinkman, with Marta Galimany being the best Spanish, eleventh. 2:39 from the winner and a time of 2:31:14.

However, in the team category the host Germany, who put four of their runners in the individual ‘Top 10’, was the gold medal and Spain hung the collective silver medal, with Poland third.

A silver medal, a continental sub-championship, achieved thanks to the Catalan Galimany – who was in the lead for a good part of the marathon – and the performances of Irene Pelayo, Elena Loyo and Laura Méndez.

With Galimany eleventh, bordering on the ‘Top 10’, Irene Pelayo entered sixteenth, Elena Loyo eighteenth and Laura Méndez was 32nd in a tough race through the streets of Munich (Germany) that gave the Spanish delegation its first medal.
