Spain shows its hunger before the European Championship

Those of Vilda endorse a 7-0 to Australia in the Nuevo Colombino

MADRID, 25 Jun. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Spanish women’s soccer team thrashed Australia (7-0) this Saturday at the Nuevo Colombino Stadium in Huelva, a sign of the hunger and desire that Jorge Vilda’s team has for him to arrive on July 8, debut in Euro 2022.

Spain had been training for two weeks in Las Rozas (Madrid) and was already crazy about music. Jump onto the field, compete and confirm that they are highly motivated and have the level to dream of in England. The penultimate rehearsal showed that hunger of Vilda’s against a dismantled rival in the second half.

It was a friendly, but the national team took it seriously. On the verge of the break, Australia’s plan was already spoiled, with Bonmatí’s great goal, and after the break, Spain scored another three goals in 10 minutes, Mariona, Esther and Lucía García (4-0). Those of Vilda bit from start to finish, with another final firework and goals again from Lucía and another brace from Irene Guerrero.

The farewell before his public, the last preparation match will be away on July 1 against Italy, did not disappoint, as the coach warned. Despite the fact that the ‘Matildas’ formed for many minutes with two lines of five very withdrawn players, Spain did not stop looking for gaps, with rhythm and offensive intention.

Alexia Putellas moved the team well and the chances kept coming, with Amaiur’s goal disallowed. Although the grass did not seem to help much, Spain put speed into the game, Lucia also offered herself on more than one occasion. The Australian side had their biggest chance in the 20th minute, a Gorry crossbar.

The local siege was total towards the break, when Bonmatí made it 1-0, control with the right and the top corner with the left. Australia had not given anything away, very physical in its defense, but with three changes and the greatest Spanish punch, it was knocked out on the return of the locker room. Mariona, who had already tried it in the first half, made it 2-0 from afar in the 48th minute.

The culé showed that they are back to their best version, just as Esther gained in confidence, who arrived injured at the concentration, and Lucía García, who confirmed the win (4-0). The referee had mercy on Australia, in a penalty for clear hands, and Vilda rotated in her trial, without the team losing bite.

When the visitors asked for the time, the ‘Roja’ coach confirmed that his players will make it difficult for him to make the list for the continental tournament. Spain pressed down in the final stretch and in the 81st minute, Lucía sealed a particular double. Meanwhile, Irene Guerrero scored another brace in a couple of minutes, with a header and a long shot.

The Australians brought casualties, important players who rested although other young women with a view to earning a place in the 2023 World Cup that they will host, but Spain goes about its business, taking advantage of every minute to amass reasons and sensations to believe. On July 8, debut against Finland in the EURO.
