Spain obtains two bronzes and two places for Paris 2024 on the first day of the Paralympic World Championships

MADRID, 10 Jul. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Spanish Paralympic athletics team won two bronze medals this Sunday in the World Championship of this modality, which is being held in Paris, and also won two places for the Paralympic Games that will be held in 2024 precisely in the French capital.

As specified by the Spanish Paralympic Committee (CPE) on its website, the first medal was signed by the young Valencian Judith Tortosa; she obtained the bronze from her in the 100 meters T72 (or ‘frame running’), being a race with a tricycle and in which each athlete (with cerebral palsy) propels himself with his feet. This metal does not grant a place for the Paralympic Games, since this test is not in its program.

In the men’s long jump T11 (visually impaired), Joan Munar got his bronze with a jump of 6.15 meters. In the same category, Eduardo Uceda was in sixth position; twelfth place went to Martín Parejo. This medal did mean for Munar himself an automatic ticket to the Paris Games next year.

On the other hand, Alba García achieved fourth place in the T11 long jump (visually impaired), staying 1 cm behind the bronze. As consolation, this position granted Spain the ticket to Paris 2024; however, in this case the place is not for the athlete, but for the country.

Adiaratou Iglesias easily won his semifinal of 100 meters T13 (visually impaired), with a time of 12.34 and qualifying for the final, which will be this Monday at 7:25 p.m. In addition, Lía Beel competed in the 400 meters T11 together with her guide Marco Antonio Illescas, stopping the clock at 1: 04.42; he was insufficient to enter the semifinals.
