Spain, for its 19th European Championship after beating Italy on penalties

The hostess will face her eternal rival Portugal this Saturday

MADRID, 22 Jul. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Spanish men’s roller hockey team beat Italy on penalties this Friday to access the final of the European Championship that is taking place in the municipality of Sant Sadurní d’Anoia (Barcelona).

Spain sweated against an Italy they had beaten (4-7) on Wednesday in the last day of the group stage. The Italian team took the lead on the scoreboard but Pau Bargalló made it 1-1 in the 15th minute.

The hostess found no loophole in a rival with the lesson learned and who went ahead at halftime (1-2). Sergi Aragonés, one of the figures of the tournament, signed a draw again for Spain, at the beginning of a crazy exchange of goals.

A brace from Pau Bargalló gave Spain the first lead five minutes from time, but Andrea Malagoli made it 4-4 that sent the semi-final to penalties. There, Carles Grau’s stops led Spain to a new final, where a more than well-known Portugal awaits, with 21 titles to its credit.

“Vibrant match of the Spanish roller hockey team against Italy. What an exciting and well-deserved victory. You have shown with attitude and enthusiasm that you are the best team and that you will not give up. Keep it up, now for all in the European grand final,” wrote the president of the Spanish Olympic Committee (COE), Alejandro Blanco, on his Twitter account, after taking the honorary kick-off for the match and witnessing the exciting victory live.
