MADRID, 4 Sep. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Spanish women’s volleyball team beat Latvia (3-0) this Sunday to add their fourth consecutive victory in the qualifying phase for the European Championship, a ticket they got at the Olympic Sport Center Sport Hall in Riga in a mathematical way.
Pascual Saurín’s men won 14-25, 15-25, 16-25 in a plenary session that consolidated them in the leadership of Group E with 12 points to the 9 of Slovakia and two of the Latvians, a victory that earned them the pass to the European of the next year.
Zoi Mavrommatis and María Schlegel were the top scorers in the match with 13 points each. Spain pressed from the beginning and with those two offensive references they put the first set on track. The ‘Leonas’ starting team also responded in a forceful second quarter.
Spain did not miss the option of fast-tracking the match and the goal of qualifying, which will now go to Slovakia for the next match next Wednesday in Poprad, but with their homework done.
