Spain begins the road to the European with a win for history

Fourth biggest victory of the Spanish team in its 151 games

MADRID, 19 Oct. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Spanish women’s futsal team began its path to the next European Championship in 2023 on Wednesday with a historic win (14-0) over Belgium, at the Energia Areena (Vantaa, Finland).

The current champion did not give an option to a rival who came from the previous one and who collapsed in five minutes. Although it became a formality, the match left data for history, being the fourth biggest win for Spain in its 151 games, only surpassed by a 21-0 against Portugal in 1996, an 18-1 against Belarus in 1998 and a 16- 1 to Russia in 2004.

Ana Luján opened the account and Vane Sotelo extended the distance taking advantage of a steal by Irene Samper 20 seconds later. Ana Pino, recently arrived due to Laura Córdoba’s injury, made the third almost in her first intervention. Irene Samper, Noelia, Mayte Mateo and Irene Córdoba, this one twice, took the game to halftime with a resounding 8-0.

In the second part, Ana Pino and Vane Sotelo raised the tally to 10 goals. Later, Irene Córdoba and Vane Sotelo herself completed their private accounts to end the game with two hat-tricks.
