MADRID, 22 Ago. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Spanish women’s 3×3 basketball team started with a victory over Azerbaijan by 20-12 in the 3×3 European Championship, which is being held in Vienna (Austria), and where the current Olympic runners-up are trying to equal or surpass their second place in the last continental competition, held in Jerusalem.
The Spaniards won comfortably after a match in which they were always ahead and in which they built up a lead that reached more than 10 points. The Azerbaijanis were led by Dina Ulyanova, who scored 10 of her team’s 12 points, five of them from the free throw line.
From the start, the success of Sandra Ygueravide and Juana Camilión gave Ana Junyer’s team a lead that only grew throughout the match. After five minutes, they were already winning by seven points (9-2), an advantage that did not decrease and that allowed the Spanish team to win comfortably.
The biggest lead was 16-4 going into the last two minutes, and they could only reduce it from the free throw with points from Ulyanova, who along with Walker was the only player from the Azerbaijani team to score points. On the Spanish side, all of them were able to open their scoring, although it was not the best day for Vega Gimeno, who was only able to make one shot from the perimeter in her multiple attempts.
The Olympic and European runners-up will play their next match in this tournament this Thursday against Austria at 9.20pm, in search of qualification for the quarter-finals, which is practically assured with this resounding victory.
