Spahija: “We have a fight to survive in the ‘Playoff’, but Laso’s health is more important”

MADRID, 6 Jun. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The coach of Bitci Baskonia, Neven Spahija, assured this Monday that the health of Real Madrid coach Pablo Laso, who suffered a myocardial infarction at dawn on Saturday, is “more important” than the “fight to survive in the ‘ Playoff'” of the Endesa League that will be the third game of the semifinals against the white team.

“We have a very important game, a fight to survive in the ‘Playoff’, but there are more important things, like life and health. The health of our friend Pablo Laso is more important, I want to send him a hug from Vitoria, from my club and the players. May he recover well and go back to work again”, said Spahija in the preview of the match against Real Madrid on Tuesday (9:00 p.m.).

The Croatian coach analyzed the two games against the Whites in these semi-finals. “In the first one, we had a bad defense, with 17 triples against and a lot of second option baskets. In the second one, we took away a lot of those things, but we played a very bad offense, with unnecessary shots. You have to look for better possibilities, because we’re good shooters,” he explained.

“Surely we will try to change a lot of things, but we have to be honest, a lot of things depend on Real Madrid, they have a lot of quality, the fact that they lack bases doesn’t mean anything, they don’t have low basketball levels, they now play their best basketball in the season,” he said about his rival on Tuesday.

Finally, Spahija urged to recover the good dynamics away from home, after the two consecutive losses at the Wizink Center, which broke with a streak of six straight wins away from the Buesa Arena. “We are united, the players want and with the support of the fans I hope to play better basketball,” he concluded.
