The English football coach, Gareth Southgate, does not hide that they would be “crazy” if they did not try and make “the association” between the Real Madrid player Jude Bellingham and the Bayern Munich player Harry Kane take shape in the national team, while at the same time praises the progression and “maturity” that the Madrid player is having.
“We have made him play higher. Jude was right behind Harry in some of the games and that has allowed us to attack and defend in a slightly different way. We would be crazy not to try and make that partnership work together,” Southgate confessed. in an interview published this Sunday on 'Sky Sports'.
The coach of the current European runners-up celebrates “the maturity” that the young midfielder has had “to adapt to that.” “The way he has done it says everything, really, about how he is as a player and as a person,” he admits, without forgetting that he must have “a certain responsibility” in defensive tasks.
“Harry and Jude are playing exceptionally well at their clubs. Obviously they are both at big clubs so they have to perform under pressure every week. That's the type of environment we want our players in,” Southgate reflected.
The English coach does not forget that he could not count on much in 2023 with Bellingham. “I think Jude only played five of our ten games last year, so we try to make sure we develop other players for those eventualities. We are fortunate that in many positions we have very good competition,” he noted.
