Sorribes overcomes Fett and advances to the quarterfinals in Monastir

MADRID, 11 Sep. (EUROPA PRESS) –

Spanish tennis player Sara Sorribes beat Croatian Jana Fett 5-7, 6-3, 6-4 on Wednesday to qualify for the quarter-finals of the Monastir (Tunisia) WTA 250 tournament being played on hard courts.

Despite breaking her opponent’s serve twice in a row at the start of the first set, Sorribes squandered that advantage (3-1) until she found herself 5-3 down. The Castellón native then reacted and broke to love (5-5), but immediately gave up her service turn again.

Sorribes was unable to overcome this situation, but he did gain courage for the next set. He demonstrated this by coming back from 1-2 to 4-2 and later responding to a break from Fett (4-3) with another immediate break (5-3), then heading for the partial victory.

In the third set, the Castellón native started with a break in her favour and consolidated it (2-0). She then failed to convert two break points in the third game and paid for it by losing her serve in the fourth (2-2). However, Sorribes remained firm with her subsequent serves.

In the ninth game, the Spaniard took advantage of the second break point that her 15-40 had given her and, immediately after, she served to make it 6-4. After three hours and one minute of play, Sorribes advanced to the next round, where she will play against the Slovak Rebecca Sramkova or the French Clara Burel.
