At 36, Wesley Sneijder is studying to follow in the footsteps of his compatriot and former teammate Arjen Robben and to play again, according to reports from the Netherlands on Tuesday. Jordy Zuidam, technical director of Utrecht, said that he had spoken with the former media about his possible return to football.
Sneijder will train again this month with an amateur team, the DOS Holland Stichtse Boys (DHSC), in Utrecht, which may be the prelude to joining FC Utrecht itself.
Sneijder, who set the record for playing 134 games for the Netherlands, performed at Ajax, Real Madrid, Inter and Galatasaray, among other teams, and will now try to get back in shape a year after his retirement.
His brother, Jeffrey Sneijder, part of the DHSC coaching staff, explained to the media: “Wesley wants to lose weight and be busy, he said that maybe this will give him the urge to play again, he has been away for a season, he needs to experience what which is to go back to playing field after a time without football and regain the feeling of having fun ”.
“It is clear that a Sneijder at the top of form is a very interesting prospect for us, but the ball is on its roof,” said Zuidam, technical director of Utrecht.
Robben, who is also 36 years old, announced last month his transfer to Groningen, his home club, for which he signed for a season.
