Sherrie Moore has been chosen to succeed Harbaugh as a head coach at Michigan.

Sherrie Moore was named Michigan’s new athletic director on Friday. He takes over for Jim Harbaugh, who left earlier this week to become the head coach of the Los Angeles Chargers.

Moore’s contract lasts for five years and pays him a starting wage of $500,000. In the first year, he gets an extra $5 million.

In each of the next three years, his salary will go up by 2%, and Moore will earn an additional $500k per contractual year if he stays on as coach in charge for the whole year.

Moore can also get bonuses of up to $3.5 million, with $500,000 for winning a conference title and $1 million for winning the national title.

His buyout began at $5 million as well as goes down by $1 million every year until it’s just $1 million left in the contract.

Moore was in charge of the offense for the Wolverines and filled in as head coach for four games last season while Harbaugh was suspended.

Moore went 4-0 within those games, with wins in Penn State as well as Ohio State. He helped Michigan stay unbeaten on its way to the national championship.

“I have been planning my entire guiding career to feed this opportunity so I can’t think of a more suitable location to serve as a head coach than during the University of Michigan,” Moore said in a press release.

Michigan has a history of winning football games for 144 years, and we will try everything we can every day as an entire TEAM to keep that going. We won’t change our rules.

We will be a championship-level team that is smart, tough, reliable, relentless, and full of energy. We love football and play with love for the game, a winged helmet, and each other.

Our goal is to be the best in the classroom, in our communities, and when we’re not playing sports. I’m excited to spend time with our players, coaches, and staff in my new job.

Moore was brought in by Harbaugh as the tight ends coach at Michigan before the 2018 season. Before that, he had been a coach at Central Michigan College and Louisville.

Before the 2021 season, he was named the coach of the offensive line and co-offensive coordinator.

That year, the offensive line won the Power Source Joe Moore Award as the best in college football for the second year in a row.

“Sherrone has been a great leader for our football team,” athletic director Warde Manuel stated in a statement. “He has helped the offensive line as well as players on the offensive side of football shine.”

“He is a dynamic, fierce, and competitive person who helps his players do their best.” People who play for him love being in the building with him every day.

Jim Harbaugh left Ann Arbor two days ago to become head coach of the NFL’s Chargers in Los Angeles. Now, the Michigan Wolverines have selected Sherrone Moore, who is the offensive coordinator, to take over.

Moore is from Derby and has been the chief offensive officer for the Wolverines since January 2018.

In 2023, Harbaugh was suspended because of a scandal involving sign-stealing. Moore took over as head coach or led Michigan to a 4-0 record, including big wins over Penn State and Ohio State.

Moore was born in Derby and played football for Derby High School under Tom Young. After high school, he played offensive line for two years at Butler Community College before transferring to the College of Oklahoma as an All-American in the 2006 class.

A surveillance video shows that a statue of Jackie Robinson was stolen. Moore worked as an assistant professor at Louisville after his stint at Oklahoma.

He then joined Central Michigan and became head coach of the Chippewas. He stayed there until 2018, after which he moved to Michigan.

Moore was Moore’s offensive coordinator, and his offensive line earned the Joe Moore Award in both 2021 and 2022 as the best receiving line unit in the country. No other school had ever won the award twice in a row before.
