Sherif eliminates Cornet in the first round of Cluj-Napoca

French Alizé Cornet, first seed and number 59 in the world, fell on Tuesday to the Egyptian Mayar Sherif in the first round of the WTA 250 clay court tournament in Cluj-Napoca (Romania).

Sherif, 119 in the WTA ranking, beat Cornet 6-2, 6-4 in one hour and 25 minutes to sign his first victory against a player located in the top hundred of the ranking.
