Sergi Bruguera: “Carreño has made a great effort, the 3-0 is quite important”

MADRID, 27 Nov. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Spanish Davis Cup captain, Sergi Bruguera, was once again “proud” of his players after an “important” 3-0 this Friday over Ecuador at the start of the Davis 2021 Finals, where Pablo Carreño decided the tie with the second singles and then made “a great effort” for the doubles.

“My players always give 100% since I am captain, I am always proud. In principle the doubles were open to see how the games were going. ‘Feli’ had felt bad, some dizziness, he was better but not to play,” he said at a press conference.

Feliciano made it 1-0 and for the doubles he made way for a Carreño who had just played three intense sets with a comeback. “Pablo was tired but he was fine and he was playing well. The other option was with Pedro and he has just arrived. Pablo has made a great effort to make himself available to the team,” he confessed.

“It is quite important to win 3-0 because if we fail to beat Russia we would have the opportunity to be one of the best seconds,” recalled the Spanish captain. In this sense, Marcel Granollers and Carreño agreed, also present at a press conference around 1:00 in the morning at the Madrid Arena.

“It was very important to be able to beat Ecuador 3-0. It has cost a lot, but it is very positive for us to finish like this. Against Russia it will be hard and we will see if we can win the maximum number of points to be able to pass, and better win”, said the Catalan.

“I did not expect a day like this, I am very tired, but the 3-0 was very important. At the beginning of the individual I suffered a little, but later I played better. We started the doubles incredible, but then we suffered until the end,” said the Asturian.
