Schwartzman and Podoroska lead Argentina in ATP and WTA rankings

Roland Garros 2020 concluded, with the victories of Rafael Nadal in men and Iga Swiatek in women, both the ATP and WTA released their new rankings, with a major promotion of the two outstanding Argentines: Diego Schwartzman and Nadia Podoroska.

By Schwartzman, now appears as top ten for the first time in his career losing in the semifinals to the champion, Nadal. It is the return of an Argentine to the Top 10 of the ranking after 17 months of absence, where Juan Martín del Potro was 9th on May 27, 2019.

Now 'Little'accumulates 3180 points and is the 12th Argentine to enter the top ten. In addition, it remains in a excellent position for the London Masters (November 15-22) where they accumulate only the points of the calendar year, and that depending on the pandemic, could have big absences.

The historic feat of Podoroska, surpassing the classification and being the first woman to reach the semifinals from that area of the French major tournament, had consequences on his ranking: climbed 83 spots from 131st prior to the Paris Open to 48th.

There was no Argentina in the Top 50 since July 2011, when Gisela Dulko was ranked 37th. Podoroska thus boosts his ranking to fall in the semifinals against the champion of the contest: the Polish Iga Swiatek, who took his first Grand Slam title.
