Savic: “If I tell the truth, I didn’t think about Cristiano when United played us”

MADRID, 22 Feb. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Atlético de Madrid player Stefan Savic assured that this Wednesday’s ‘Champions’ round of 16 clash against Manchester United “excites a lot” to a “united squad” and acknowledged that when they got the ‘red devils’ in the draw he did not think about Cristiano Ronaldo, one of the black beasts of the mattress team.

“If I tell the truth, I didn’t think about Cristiano Ronaldo [cuando tocó el United en el sorteo]. I only thought of United because they are a great club, they are a great rival. And speaking of Cristiano, he is one of the best players in history, but now it is a new game, a new challenge, a new club and nothing, we are focused on this Wednesday’s game,” Savic said at a press conference.

The Montenegrin central defender highlighted the importance of facing the duel after winning in Pamplona last Saturday. “It was very important to keep a clean sheet after many games and this will help us to gain confidence for the future (…) I see the team well, with hope and knowing the importance of the ‘Champions'”, he recalled .

“It’s a very nice competition and all the players want to play it. We look forward to this match together and we want to get a good result,” said Savic, who said he felt “good” in systems with two or three central defenders. “That depends on what the coach chooses, on the opponent… I’m used to playing in both systems,” he added.

“We have had many injuries in defense this season and that is probably why the coach has had problems choosing the eleven, but I am comfortable with both systems,” said the central defender, predisposed to play in any position.

Finally, Savic stated that it is “more about bodies than words” when asked about the union of the group. “Bodies speak better than words. The other day they spoke after beating Osasuna. We are all united, the dressing room and the fans and we have no doubt that we are on the right track to move all this forward and I am calm and excited for the game tomorrow,” he concluded.
