Sara Sorribes advances to the round of 16 in Monastir and Marina Bassols says goodbye

MADRID, 10 Sep. (EUROPA PRESS) –

Spanish tennis player Sara Sorribes advanced this Monday to the round of 16 of the Monastir tournament (Morocco), in the WTA 250 category and played on hard court, after beating Russian Anna Blinkova (6-4, 6-4) in her debut, while Marina Bassols said goodbye with a defeat against French Clara Burel (6-2, 6-2).

The Castellón native, world number 115, needed just under two hours to get rid of her opponent in a close duel in which she took a 2-0 lead. Two breaks from the Russian player turned the first set around (4-3), but Sorribes closed it out in her favour by winning the last three games.

Blinkova tried to surprise her with a new break at the start of the second set, but the Spaniard quickly made it 4-1 in her favour. The breaks with which the last four games were resolved went in favour of Sorribes, who will face the winner of the duel between the Egyptian Mayar Sherif and the Croatian Jana Fett in the next round.

Meanwhile, Bassols said goodbye in a clash against Burel in which she only managed to take advantage of one of her six break opportunities. The French tennis player won the first set after breaking the Catalan’s serve twice, who after exchanging breaks with her rival at the start of the second, lost the last five games.
