Santi Denia praises “the mentality” of his team: “He has setbacks and continues to believe”

MADRID, 2 Jul. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Spanish under-21 soccer coach, Santi Denia, praised this Saturday “the mentality” of his team, because “it has setbacks and continues to believe” until it surpasses them in the European Championship of the category, having already reached the semifinals after their victory 2-1 after extra time against Switzerland.

“That speaks of the mentality of the team, that it continues, that it continues, that it has setbacks, that it has setbacks and continues to believe. And I am accompanying them, I am helping them, I am reinforcing them, that is the idea”, Denia commented, before the RTVE microphones, after the quarterfinal match.

“When they scored against them, I told them that with the game they could get more chances and that our goal was going to come. They believe in that idea and that’s important for the team,” insisted the ‘Rojita’ coach, that in this way reached the semifinals of the European sub-21 for the fourth consecutive time.

In fact, Denia praised that pleasant statistic of his pupils, despite winning the Swiss team with uncertainty. “Based on the work of these players, another semifinal has been achieved, which is important for the Federation, and we are also ambitious and want more,” he argued in this regard.

“It is a piece of information that speaks well of the work of Spanish football, of the work of the Spanish youth football clubs and of professional football. And with the Federation we are a reflection of that work that is done in the clubs”, added the coach of the ‘Rojita’, who avoided answering about his favorite rival for the semifinals.

“What we want now is to take another step, to be in the final, winning that semifinal and prepare the match in the best possible way, against the rival that touches us and that’s it, we want to be there too,” he limited himself to saying, without assessing the options of France and Ukraine to face Spain in said ‘semis’.

“It will be necessary to prepare it very well because we already see that the level is rising, the level is getting better and there are very good teams, very well worked. That also speaks highly of the UEFA competition,” he declared. “We know Ukraine from a few days ago, we know the level of play they have, good play and hard work,” he said.

“And then we also played with France in March, the same as we played against Switzerland, which was our rival today. And well, it no longer depends on us. Whatever rival it is, we will prepare it in detail, as we do with all rivals, and continue reinforcing ours, that we are not going to have another “, concluded Denia in the mixed zone.
