MADRID, 13 May. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Georgian fencer Sandro Bazadze has won this Saturday the individual competition in the 40th Villa de Madrid Men’s Saber World Cup, held at the Gallur Municipal Sports Center, thanks to his victory in the final by 15/6 against the Italian Riccardo Nuccio.
Without any of the 13 Spaniards who were in contention for this event, since they all fell on Friday in their respective preliminary rounds, the main board has crowned a Bazadze who started as the number 1 seed by virtue of his leadership in the ranking of the International Fencing Federation (FIE).
In the round of 16, the Georgian has eliminated the American Mitchell Saron by 15/12. Then, in their quarter-final and semi-final appointments, he left the French Bolade Apithy (10/15) and Maxime Pianfetti (11/15) by the wayside respectively.
And already in the final fight for the title, Nuccio has barely withstood Bazadze’s push. Thanks to this result, the Georgian has obtained his third gold medal in the World Cup circuit, after those won last year in Tbilisi (Georgia) and Algiers (Algeria).
