Sainz: “I hope this is the beginning of turning around the difficult season at Ferrari”

MADRID, 1 Jul. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Spanish driver Carlos Sainz (Ferrari) hopes that his third position achieved this Saturday in the sprint race of the Austrian Grand Prix, the tenth round of the Formula 1 World Championship, “is the beginning of turning the difficult season around” that they carry within their team.

“I hope this is the beginning of turning the season around a bit, the difficult season we’ve had at Ferrari. The truth is that up to now it’s been P5, P4, P5… I hope the car goes well tomorrow in race and we have little degradation, which is always our weak point”, said Sainz before the DAZN microphones.

“I think I had a very good day because, given how it started, I thought I was going to stay in Q1, because of the brake problem I already saw the day as a bit black. Then that lap of Q1 has cleared up a lot, that I have put myself first and from then on I have felt very good with the car”, argued the driver from Madrid.

Thus, Sainz was happy for his Saturday performance in Spielberg. “I have been able to do good laps in ‘qualy’, I have been fast in the wet. And nothing, I am now third. We have taken good points and tomorrow I will start third again, to see if we can finish off a good weekend”, he predicted about the Grand Prix Sunday.

“I’m not asking for a good pace, but a decent race pace to at least hold seconds and third. I think it will be the start of changing a lot of things in the car after all the development we’ve brought to the last few races,” said Sainz from the Red Bull Ring circuit.

Finally, he was “optimistic but also cautious” because “the last few times we have moved forward we have degraded [neumáticos], we have gone backwards”. “And nothing tells us that this cannot happen tomorrow; only the improvements that we have brought, let’s see if they allow us to prevent that from happening”, concluded Sainz.
