Sabin Merino, the late Athletic scorer who leads Leganés

A double by Sabin Merino keeps Leganés in promotion for promotion to First. The Urduliz striker has emerged as an offensive reference for the Butarque team and seems willing to lead his team to the long-awaited promotion to LaLiga Santander.

Last signing of the 2018/2019 season, he hardly had chances in the first seasonHowever, for dispatch reasons, when it seemed that he was with one foot away from Butarque, the Basque striker, who had not scored a goal, stayed at Leganés. After a good preseason, it seems that the following campaign was going to be his consecration in Leganés, however, he ended up on loan to Deportivo, in the winter market.

Curiously, Sabin Merino began his career in Galician lands scoring in the first six games. This drew attention in ButarqueEspecially when the two players who had closed the doors of the team En Nesyri and Braithwaite ended up leaving the cucumber team orphaned of scorers weeks later. The good performance in Riazor, seemed to move Merino away from LeganésHowever, again the dispatches took him to the Madrid team: in the event of Deportivo's relegation, it would automatically return to Butarque.

In this way, a new season began in Leganés. After two seasons, Sabin Merino did not know what it was to score a goal with the cucumber jersey. This new season something changed both with Martí and with Garitano, newcomer, has taken the place in the starting eleven and already has seven goals. It so happens that three of them have been against the same rival: Lugo.

This 'late' scorer seems to be the same one who excited the Danok Bat fans, in his youth stage, and who led Bilbao Athletic in their promotion to Second, from Second B, together with Lekue and Gorka Santamaría. That great season opened the doors to the first team of San Mamés, in which he shared a dressing room with Raúl García, Iñaki Williams, Lekue, among others. The good has been waiting, but Sabin Merino is willing to achieve Leganés' goal, thanks to what he does best this season: scoring goals.
