Sabalenka beats Swiatek to score a double in Madrid

MADRID, 6 May. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Belarusian tennis player Aryna Sabalenka surpassed (6-3, 3-6, 6-3) this Saturday the Polish Iga Swiatek to lift for the second time, after her triumph in 2021, the Mutua Madrid Open, in the WTA 1,000 category.

The number two in the world prevailed over the number one in a beautiful battle on the Manolo Santana track of the Caja Mágica. The two met two weeks ago in the final in Stuttgart, with victory for the Pole, but Sabalenka took revenge in the 13th title of his career and third in 2023 after Adelaide 1 and the Australian Open.

Sabalenka gave no option with her serve in the first set and scored her sleeve by pressing with the arrival of the decisive games until she achieved the ‘break’. The number one reacted but had to sweat to force the third set, suffering a lot with his serve but taking advantage of the two ‘break’ balls he had.

The triumph danced from one side of the net to the other, with a Swiatek reaction after losing his serve to add three games in a row. Sabalenka pressed again to finish off a number one who sold his skin dearly, with a ‘break’ in the eighth game and victory on Madrid ground at the fourth match point.
