Bayern Munich seem to have completely said goodbye to the bid for Erling Haaland. This time it was Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, the former CEO of the Bundesliga champion, who advised the current board not to go after the Norwegian striker. From Rummenigge’s point of view, There would be no room in the team for two battering rams of the stature of Haaland and Robert Lewandowski and he has no doubt of the footballer he would stay with: Lewandowski.
These statements by Rummenigge, that although he no longer belongs to Bayern, his opinions continue to have their specific weight, they have a second reading, beneficial for Real Madrid: the club chaired by Florentino Pérez has one less rival in the bid to sign Haaland.
“Bayern have Robert Lewandowski. He is above Haaland. You cannot have them both in the same team, it would be crazy because one would always leave the other on the bench,” Rummenigge explained during an interview with the Sky television network. He added: “I can only advise Bayern to stay with Lewandowski.”
Much will depend on Lewandowski’s future. Bayern do not want surprises and will try to renew him in time so that he cannot leave free when his contract ends in 2023. At the Allianz Arena they are convinced that Lewandowski, despite his 33 years, has many seasons left in the elite. “He is homeless despite his age. Cristiano Ronaldo is a magnificent example ”, Rummenigge stressed.
