RTVE paralyzes the controversial signing of David Broncano: chaos increases at the top of the network

The interim president of RTVE, Cascajosa Conceptionhas been unable to carry out the controversial signing of David Broncanodespite the fact that everything was practically closed for approval at the meeting that the highest body of the public broadcaster held this Thursday.

Hiring the showman, previewed by Informalia on February 28has been paralyzed by the absence of Elena Sánchez, who was interim president of RTVE until last week, when she was dismissed in a turbulent meeting. Although she lost her position, she continued as a counselor, but she did not appear at this morning’s meeting in which Broncano’s hiring was going to be discussed. Nor has she delegated her vote.

Without Elena Sánchez in the meeting room, Cascajosa only had four votes guaranteed: Ramón Colom (PSOE), Juan José Baños (PNV) and Roberto Lakidain (Vamos), in addition to his own. The three representatives of the PP – Jenaro Castro, Carmen Sastre and Consuelo Aparicio – remain against, as well as José Manuel Martín Medem (Unidas Podemos), who in the last meetings goes on his own and has always voted with Elena Sánchez. Both are against some clauses in the contract to bring La Resistencia to La 1.

At this point, Cascajosa must develop a new plan to convince Sánchez or Medem and build a majority of at least five votes that allows, within a few days, to carry out a signing that has been stuck and is causing a embarrassing and unprecedented chaos at the top of the Corporation.

A failed signing for the second time

The board of directors of RTVE debated again this Thursday the signing of David Broncano through a tailor-made contract, reformulated in recent days so that it would go ahead after being paralyzed on the afternoon of March 11, the first time was discussed. The incorporation of showman huh It was going to be addressed last week, but the meeting that the nine councilors held on March 26 turned into a stabbing exchange that ended with the dismissal of the president, Elena Sánchez, and her Content Director, José Pablo López. The two had been at war for some time and the ‘Broncano case’ was the last straw.

Concepción Cascajosa, new interim president of RTVE, had called the councilors again to vote on the signing of the presenter, an effort by Moncloa, which wants The resistance compete against The Anthill to weaken Pablo Motos, very critical of Pedro Sánchez. The file to hire Broncano had been reformulated with the aim of him succeeding no matter what. The most important change between the document that failed on the 11th and the one that reached the table today had to do with the duration of the agreement. From three seasons it went to two, but the budget is the same: 14 million each year.

In the first attempt, the signing of Broncano had the vote in favor of Concepción Cascajosa (PSOE), Ramón Colom (PSOE), Juan José Baños (PNV) and Roberto Lakidain (Unidas Podemos). The three representatives of the PP, Jenaro Castro, Carmen Sastre and Consuelo Aparicio, as well as the second counselor of Unidas Podemos, José Manuel Medem, voted against. Elena Sánchez abstained at the last moment to everyone’s surprise. And that position was key to his defenestration.

The signing of Broncano by RTVE has caused a political earthquake in RTVE, but also a great shock and surprise in the television sector. There are many doubts about the viability of a project that will have to adapt to the codes, language and exposure of a public, general and linear television that will not allow many of the things that La Resistencia does now. Furthermore, the family schedule in which it will be broadcast, right after Marta Carazo’s news program, will force Broncano to design a program that will necessarily have to resemble The Anthill against which it intends to compete. In other words, if the presenter did not manage to attract a broad, transversal and, above all, family audience, he would never be able to bring down Pablo Motos.
