Rosalía, the guest that matters most to us tonight at the MET Gala: why we think she will be

Rosalía is on the guest list for the MET Gala 2023 that have been published in recent days. It is therefore likely that the Catalan artist will be in New York tonight. Let’s remember that we saw her at the 2021 and 2022 ceremonies.

The charity event brings together the great figures of fashion, film and of course music every year at the Metropolitan Museum in the city of skyscrapers, but the organization keeps the list of attendees secret while the pools of guests are published on the networks social. Alginas places Rosalía as one of the stars that will honor Karl Lagerfeld, because it has the German dressmaker as its theme this year and comes under the title Karl Lagerfeld: A line of Beauty. It would be the third consecutive visit of Rosalía to the most chic party of spring, with the permission of the coronation of Charles III.

Lagerfeld, who died in 2019, is nevertheless the confirmed true star of the event, which serves as the starting signal for the annual fashion exhibition of the Clothing Institute of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, which is financed with funds raised during the gala.

If we examine Rosalía’s agenda, we will see that her attendance at the MET Gala is perfectly possible because she has a clear day off. The singer performed on Friday, April 28 in Mexico City. Who will not be safe accompanying her is Rauw Alejandro, who is performing on the west coast precisely this morning, specifically it is expected that she will sing at the Pechanga Arena in San Diego, California.

Two years ago Rosalía debuted at the MET Gala. In 2021 she went with a Rick Owens dress, and she did not respect the theme of that edition, American fashion. But Rosalía dedicated her design to pay homage to the Spanish textile industry. “It’s a Rick Owens design, inspired by a Manila shawl, which is very popular in Spain. It’s a traditional piece that I adore,” she declared then, and recalled the great Lola Flores. Her tall red platform boots are unforgettable.

She was not punished for violating the dress code and they invited her again a year later but this time she adhered to the theme of golden glamor and appeared in a design by Matthew Williams, Givenchy’s creative director, perfect to comply with the norm. The model was made from a traditional pattern, with a mermaid cut, and to which abundant beading, pearls, embroidered appliqués and an open skirt with ruffles were added. The back was decorated with a simulated spine with a transforming leather harness with a silver hook to hold the jeweled straps of the dress. Rosalía put the ticket with the accessories: long gloves, spectacular sunglasses, boots with a lot of platform and a handbag.

Rosalía said that she had been inspired by a painting that the American painter John Singer Sargent made of Lady Astor in 1909, one of the great figures of the Golden Age. She changed models after the gala at the Metropolitan Museum, and at the afterparty We saw her with another Matthew Williams dress that was simpler and more comfortable to wear: a short design in a silver tone and with beading, which she combined with a black blazer and tall black platform boots.
