Roma contain Bayer Leverkusen and reach the Europa League final

MADRID, 18 May. (EUROPA PRESS) –

AS Roma qualified this Thursday to play the Europa League final, thanks to its goalless draw at Bayer Leverkusen’s home and making good its 1-0 advantage from the first leg, in an exercise of contention against the constant attacks no prize from the German team.

The BayArena experienced the second duel in eight days between the Spanish Xabi Alonso and the Portuguese José Mourinho, as heads of bench in two teams with similar trajectories this course. Thus, both fight in their Leagues to occupy positions that give access to European competition, but aware of the succulent shortcut through this Europa League.

With this in mind, the Leverkusen team went all out in attack to overcome the rental goal that their rival wore. He even crashed a ball into the crossbar of the Roman goal, after a quarter of an hour, by Moussa Diaby after a run into the area and which culminated with a powerful right foot.

More than twenty shots were made by Bayer Leverkusen, all unsuccessful, while the visiting team only shot once and it didn’t even go on goal. In this way, at the end of the match, the frustration of Xabi Alonso on the German bench contrasted with the joy of José Mourinho leading Roma towards new milestones. His next challenge will be the final of this Europa League, scheduled for May 31 at the Puskás Aréna in Budapest.

Last season, a goal from Nicolò Zaniolo gave the Giallorossa squad their first official European title, beating Feyenoord (1-0) in the Conference League final. Already in 1961, Roma won the Fairs Cup, but this competition does not have the recognition of UEFA for all purposes.
