MADRID, 20 Ago. (EUROPA PRESS) –
Slovenian cyclist Primoz Roglic (Red Bull-Bora-Hansgrohe) won the fourth stage of La Vuelta 2024 on Tuesday, between Plasencia and Pico Villuercas over 170.5 kilometres, and has become the new leader of the general classification after the previous red jersey holder, Belgian Wout van Aert (Team Visma-Lease a Bike), dropped out of the peloton at the start of the final climb.
The three-time winner of the Spanish race won a stage dominated by a breakaway of five riders, two of them Spanish, Mikel Bizkarra (Euskaltel-Euskadi) and Pablo Castrillo (Kern Pharma), who had no chance against the push of Red Bull-Bora-Hansgrohe in the group of favourites.
The Spanish Grand Prix will take place on Wednesday in its fifth day, a flat stage covering 177 kilometres between Fuente del Maestre and Seville, which will offer the third opportunity for victory for the sprinters.
