Ricky Rubio gives up going to the World Cup to take care of his mental health

MADRID, 5 Ago. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Spanish international point guard Ricky Rubio has given up this Saturday to attend the next World Cup in absolute category, which will be held from August 25 to September 10 in the Philippines, Japan and Indonesia, to take care of his mental health.

“I have decided to stop my professional activity to take care of my mental health. I want to thank all the support I have received from the FEB to understand my decision. Today #LaFamilia makes more sense than ever. Thank you,” Rubio said in a press release released by the Spanish Basketball Federation (FEB) itself.

“I would ask that my privacy be respected to be able to face these moments and to be able to give more information when the time is right,” added the El Masnou point guard, who had already been absent from training last Thursday under the orders of coach Sergio Scariolo.

For its part, the FEB has expressed its “respect, admiration and affection”. “#LaFamilia will be by the player’s side at all times,” the federative note concluded. Rubio’s hole in Scariolo’s plans was filled by Juan Núñez in the recent friendly match against Venezuela (87-57).
