Richard Branson Mallorca revolutionized this Wednesday at the inauguration of Son Bunyola, a hotel that the founder of Virgin bought back in 2015 after selling it in 2002 for not obtaining the license he needed to leave the estate to his liking. Finally, in 2021, its restoration began and on the 16th, at the gates of the official start of summer, it opened its doors for guests.
“It took me as long to get people into space as it did to build Son Bunyola,” joked the businessman at the long-awaited presentation of the hotel, in which he was accompanied by Carolina Cerezuelathe singer-songwriter Jaime Anglada and the hotel manager vincent padioleau.
It must be remembered that in the summer of 2021, his Unity rocket plane took off from New Mexico and spent an hour of weightlessness outside the ground. The company continues to carry out tests to offer safe excursions for a reasonable price: 400,000 euros. All with the aim of promoting space tourism.
The billionaire tycoon, married since 1989 to the Scottish Joan Templeman, finds above all fun in adrenaline. At 72, he has crossed the Earth’s two main oceans in a balloon, broken a couple of speed records in the Atlantic, climbed Mont Blanc, crossed the English Channel kitesurfing and driving a water car, the Virgin Galactic . Among the funniest anecdotes about him, he has also driven a Formula 1 and has fought a heifer.
Returning to his exclusive hotel in Mallorca, it is located in the Serra de Tramuntana, an area that drives him crazy: “I love Mallorca and I have always been in love with the Tramuntana”, he stressed this Wednesday. It has only 26 rooms suitable for few pockets. Hanging around its website, spending a weekend in July in one of its rooms or suites can cost from 850 to 2,450 euros per night.
