Reinier does not lift his head

The Reinier thing at Borussia Dortmund is bad news on bad news. Until recently, the news of the Brazilian, on loan from Real Madrid at Borussia Dortmund for two seasons (he is in his second year), he had few opportunities in the starting eleven; Now it is added that, the day he was able to shine and convince Marco Rose that he deserves more, he tiptoed and came out in the photo of the European disappointment of his team. Nothing comes out of Reinier.

The Brazilian had only started once this season until last Wednesday; in the Cup against the modest Ingolstadt. In the Bundesliga he has barely accumulated 53 minutes, without having left his mark, neither in goals nor in assists. But Rose chose him for Dortmund’s visit to Lisbon to play against Sporting de Portugal, a vital match for Borussia’s chances of continuing in the Champions League. And things couldn’t have gotten worse, both for the team and for Reinier.

Normally, it is Brandt and Reus who close the space to Reinier in eleven, depending on the drawing Rose chooses; in this case, he opted for a three-midfielder scheme, with the Brazilian in the middle, supported on the sides by his two teammates. Without Haaland, Rose filled the field with three quarters to contribute arrival, but it was regular. He barely finished five times on goal in the whole game and in the 67th minute he gave up his plan by withdrawing Reinier from the field.

The Europa League, an opportunity for Reinier

During the long hour that the loan from Madrid played, he gave 32 good passes of 36, made a shot off sticks, lost six balls and recovered seven. He worked without the ball (four games won out of nine), but did not bring the clarity that Rose expected from him upstairs, nor the speed to break lines. And his biggest problem is that he was the protagonist on the day it was certified that Dortmund will not play the eighth of the Champions League. Hard to claim that you deserve more in such circumstances.

Although the near future could hold something decent for Reinier after a year and a half without almost scratching the ball in Dortmund. Borussia is guaranteed the Europa League, a competition smaller than the Champions League and in which Rose will be more mentally prepared to rotate regularly. All in all, the Brazilian wants a change of scenery to relaunch his career, but it is in the hands of the German club, that it is unlikely to allow the assignment to be broken, given the fear of running out of troops in the core.
