Real Madrid tie with Chelsea to stay alive in the Champions League

MADRID, 8 Dic. (EUROPA PRESS) –

Real Madrid Femenino drew (1-1) this Thursday with Chelsea on the fourth day of the Champions League in Group A, a point to continue depending on themselves to be in the quarterfinals, although for that they will have to win next week at Paris Saint-Germain in the French capital.

Alberto Toril’s men had a good first half, with high pressure, although they survived two balls from Samantha Kerr’s post. In a gift from the rival goal, Caroline Weir made it 1-0 for White at the Alfredo Di Stéfano Stadium, licensed to believe.

However, the London team, which beat the Spanish two weeks ago (2-0), improved after the restart and managed to make it 1-1 after Misa’s misfortune in a penalty kick taken by Reiten that bounced off the local goal to get on the scoreboard. With options for both, the distribution of points was fair, with a good response from Madrid.

The whites pressed from the beginning with that pressure, but Chelsea had the chances. As soon as they started, Di Stéfano was scared by the first post, but Toril’s were growing with that rise in lines. Olga had the best chance of the locals and Weir took advantage of that gift to make it 1-0.

Kirby’s entry improved the English game, with the 1-1 to give them more confidence if possible. Misa saved the penalty but the ball went to the post and, on the rebound, inside the goal, and Chelsea took control of the game at times. Those from Toril regained their place in the last third of the match, with an exchange in which visiting goalkeeper Berger denied Olga the 2-1 lead.

The last one was for Chelsea, but Misa retaliated point blank, to leave a point in the Spanish capital. Those of Toril now add 5, third, for the 10 of the ‘blues’ and the 7 of PSG. Next week, Madrid visits Paris with the obligation to win if they want to have a chance of repeating last year’s quarterfinals, these are much more demanding on a path that is still alive.
