Real Madrid spent € 304M to replace Cristiano and could not

Madrid received 100 million euros from Juventus for the transfer of Cristiano in July 2018. In economic terms, the operation seemed very beneficial for Madrid at that time. However, the passage of time has shown that it was not so profitable. Madrid have spent more than triple to try to fill the gap left by the top scorer in the club's history and have failed to cover it. Total, Madrid has disbursed 304 million in the purchase of footballers with the aim of alleviating the scoring deficit left by Cristiano's departure: Hazard (115), Vinicius (45), Rodrygo (45), Mariano Díaz (22), Jovic (60) and Brahim Díaz (17).

However, Madrid's biggest problem has not been spending triple what Cristiano entered, but those who arrived in his place have not been able to reach, among all, the goalscoring figures of the Portuguese star. In total, the six reinforcements for the Madrid forward in the last three years have scored 35 goals. Vinicius (13), Rodrygo (8), Mariano Díaz (6), Hazard (4), Jovic (2) and Brahim Díaz (2).

Cristiano, for his part, has not lowered his scoring performance at Juventus. The Portuguese star almost triples the number of his six “substitutes” in Madrid. Since signing for Juventus, he has scored 95 goals in 122 games. This season he has already scored 30 goals in 33 games, an average of almost one goal per game. In his debut campaign in Italy, 2018-19, he scored 28 goals in 43 games, while last season he scored 37 goals in 46. His last exhibition was this Sunday, scoring a hat-trick in 32 minutes and silencing the criticism leveled at him after Juventus was eliminated in the knockout stages of the Champions League.
