Real Madrid player Dzanan Musa, elected January MVP in the Euroleague

MADRID, 5 Feb. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Bosnian basketball player Dzanan Musa, forward for Real Madrid, has been named this Monday as the most valuable player (MVP) for January in the Euroleague, a month in which his team achieved five victories and suffered two defeats, and in which he himself Musa averaged 19.9 points.

Musa led the reaction of the merengue team after the defeat suffered at the beginning of the year against its eternal rival, FC Barcelona. Chus Mateo's pupils finished the month with that balance of 5-2, maintaining their five-win advantage at the top of the standings.

The Bosnian shone throughout January, averaging 19.9 points and 22.1 PIR per game, and achieved double figures in both statistics in the seven games of the month. To this we must add a shooting efficiency of 73.8%, along with 2.7 rebounds and 2.6 assists.

Furthermore, his consistency grew due to a colossal performance in Real Madrid's historic victory over Anadolu Efes (130-126) after four overtimes, becoming the tenth scorer to achieve 40 points in the modern Euroleague — and the second in the last decade–, and the first for the Madrid club to achieve it in the 21st century.

Musa has become MVP of the month for the first time in his four Euroleague seasons to date. He is the eighth current Real Madrid player to receive this award, following Facundo Campazzo in November and Mario Hezonja in December, making them the first trio of teammates to win the award in successive months.

The forward has also become the first player born in Bosnia-Herzegovina to win the MVP of the month, and at 24 years, 8 months and 29 days, he is also the youngest to receive it since the Slovenian Luka Doncic also received it with Real Madrid in October 2017.
