MADRID, 13 Apr. (SportsFinding) –
This Wednesday, Real Madrid suffered its third consecutive defeat in the Endesa League, the fifth adding the Euroleague, after losing to Surne Bilbao Basket (79-67) in a match corresponding to matchday 19 of the domestic championship, while Bitci Baskonia confirmed its good form by beating UCAM Murcia at home.
At the Bilbao Arena, Pablo Laso’s team knelt down once again in this sinuous stretch of the season full of problems. The whites succumbed to the brilliance of the Basques, who wrapped themselves up with their fans and were once again infallible to rise to ninth position, just one away from the playoff for the title.
Álex Mumbrú’s pupils commanded from the start but the Whites held their own with points from Sergi Llull, who reached 22, and Fabien Causeur, who finished with 13. However, it was not enough to change the dynamic after a last quarter that was a true reflection of the current moment of the meringues.
That last quarter of 19-12 was lethal for a Real Madrid that could not avoid the defeat against Bilbao Basket more coral. All its players contributed and up to six achieved double figures in PIR, among them the most valued was Damien Inglis with 14 points. Mumbrú celebrated the victory in a big way on the day of his tribute.
For its part, Bitci Baskonia continues its growth in this final stretch of the season by beating UCAM Murcia 93-83. Neven Spahija’s players, who have two consecutive wins, are placed seventh despite the insistence of the visitors, who never gave up despite Baskonia’s success.
The Vitorians, who did not notice Matt Costello’s absence due to injury, relied on Simone Fontecchio, the game’s top scorer with 27 points, but no less important were Steven Enoch and Wade Baldwin, both with a PIR of 29. In the Murcia team -which is eighth in the table- James Webb stood out with 18 units.
For its part, Casademont Zaragoza ended a disastrous streak of seven consecutive defeats at the expense of Monbus Obradoiro (80-73) in a match that gave wings to the hand team to leave the bottom of the table, while the Galicians will continue in a comfortable tenth place. The best of the clash was Sean Kilpatrick with 14 points, 4 rebounds and 2 assists.
In addition, Gran Canaria also put an end to a losing streak -three consecutive defeats- after beating Morabanc Andorra (84-78) in a match where six local players reached at least ten points.
