Raúl Entrerríos ends his 14 years at Barça

“It has been a difficult decision to make but it is time to look for new challenges”

The coordinator of the Blaugrana handball base Raúl Entrerríos will leave the club at the end of this season to seek “new professional challenges”, ending a 14-year period at the ‘culer’ club, of which he was one of the best players in the history.

The Spaniard defended the Barça shirt for eleven seasons and, after his retirement, he has been in charge of the club’s youth handball team for the last three years. In his first season as base coordinator, Entrerríos also occupied the bench of the Youth team.

Raúl Entrerríos, who retired as captain, arrived at FC Barcelona in the summer of 2010, with the poster of one of the best centre-backs in the world, and until his retirement he won three Champions Leagues (2010/11, 2014/15 and 2020/21 ), in addition to 11 Asobal leagues, eight Copas del Rey and five Super Globes, among other titles.

From that moment, Entrerríos became the coordinator of the base, a position he will hold until June 30 of this season. “FC Barcelona wants to thank Raúl Entrerríos for his professionalism and disposition throughout his time at the Club and wishes him the best in his future,” the club said.

Entrerríos wanted to explain himself the reasons for his departure. “After many seasons being part of this great Club, first as a player and then as a coach, the time has come to put an end to this unforgettable stage. And although it has been a difficult decision to make, I feel that it is time to look for new challenges,” he said.

“When I decided to retire at Barça, I did so valuing the privilege of doing so in a unique place like this and the opportunity to continue linked to high performance in the handball section. After 20 years as a handball player, I have strived to adapt to the needs of the club in a new position unknown to me and the enormous change that abandoning sports implies,” he explained.

“They have been intense years full of learning. Being able to accompany young people in their training has been a very enriching experience. And throughout this process I have also had the opportunity to learn from the great professionals who make up the handball technical staff. training and sharing handball with all of them. See Barça!”, the Asturian said goodbye.
