Ramos and Sorribes reach the semifinals in Gstaad and Palermo

Munar, eliminated in the Swiss appointment

MADRID, 21 Jul. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Spanish tennis player Albert Ramos qualified this Friday for the semifinal round at the Gstaad (Switzerland) tournament after beating (6-7(2), 6-1, 6-4) the Peruvian Juan Pablo Varillas, while the Spanish Sara Sorribes also reached the penultimate round at the WTA event in Palermo.

Ramos, champion on Swiss soil in 2019, thus repeats last year’s semifinals in search of the fifth title of his record. The Catalan tennis player had to overcome an intense marathon, with a comeback included, again to three sets as he has been doing this week in Gstaad.

The Spaniard was seen below because of the ‘tie-break’ of the first set, where he lost a lot of his level, but in the second set he returned to the charge with a 6-1. In the third set, with everything even, Ramos claimed victory with a single ‘break’ in the third game.

The Catalan will face off for a place in the final with the Serbian Miomir Kecmanovic, who signed another comeback against the Belgian Zizou Bergs 6-4, 3-6, 7-5. Meanwhile, the Spanish Jaume Munar said goodbye to the Swiss tournament after falling (6-3, 6-3) with the Argentine Pedro Cachín, who eliminated Roberto Bautista on Thursday.

On the other hand, on the WTA circuit, Sara Sorribes from Castellón defeated (6-1, 7-6(6)) the French Clara Burel, in a duel that the Spaniard put on track with a perfect first set. The second sleeve was much more close, with an exchange of ‘breaks’ that brought sudden death.

The French had two balls to force the third set, but Sorribes was the one who scored the sleeve and the match that quotes her in the semifinals with the winner of the duel between the Russian Daria Kasatkina and the Italian Jasmine Paolini.
