Rakitic leaves Sevilla

MADRID, 30 Ene. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Croatian midfielder Ivan Rakitic has left Sevilla FC, the Nervionense club confirmed this Tuesday, thus closing his second stage as a Sevilla player, in which he has become the foreigner with the most official matches for the team.

“Sevilla FC wants to thank Ivan Rakitic, one of the most important players in its history, for all his effort and dedication over these years, as well as wish him the greatest success in the future,” the Andalusian entity reported in a statement.

Rakitic, 35, returned to Sevilla in the summer of 2020 from FC Barcelona, a club to which he left precisely from the Nervionense club, ending his first stage (2011-14).

The Croatian, until now second captain of the squad, was also the second player with the most official matches on the current squad, after Jesús Navas, thanks to his 323 matches played, in which he scored 51 goals and provided 63 assists.

In total, he has played 238 EA Sports LaLiga duels -36 goals-, 26 in the Copa del Rey -7-, 25 in the Champions League -4-, 32 in the Europa League -4- and two in the Super Cup Europe. With this, he is the foreigner with the most official matches in the club's history and the only one who has surpassed the 300-match barrier. Furthermore, he is the eleventh player in the history of Sevilla FC with the most appearances, tied with Enrique Montero.

His record includes two of the seven Europa League trophies – formerly the UEFA Cup – won by the club: the 2014 one in Turin (Italy), which he himself lifted at the Juventus Stadium as first captain, and the last one May 31 in Budapest.
