MADRID, 12 Sep. (EUROPA PRESS) –
Spanish tennis player Rafael Nadal announced on Thursday that he will not be taking part in the next edition of the Laver Cup, which will be held from 20 to 22 September at the Uber Arena in Berlin (Germany), due to his physical problems.
“I am really disappointed to share that I will not be able to compete at the Laver Cup in Berlin next week,” Nadal said in a press release, released by the Laver Cup organization itself on the social network X.
“This is a team competition and, to really support Team Europe, I need to do my best for them and, at this moment, there are other players who can help the team to achieve victory,” added the Balearic tennis player in the message.
“I have so many wonderful and emotional memories of playing at the Laver Cup and I was really looking forward to being with my teammates and Bjorn in his last year as captain,” Nadal said of former player and current Swedish coach Björn Borg.
Finally, Nadal wished “good luck” to the team from the ‘Old Continent’ in their duels against the Rest of the World. “I will cheer them on from afar,” added the tennis player from Manacor. “A replacement player for Team Europe will be announced shortly,” added the tournament organisers.
