MADRID, 19 Ene. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Spanish tennis player Rafa Nadal could be out for about two months due to the injury to the iliopsoas that occurred this Wednesday during his match in the second round of the Australian Open against the American Mackenzie McDonald.
“Good afternoon. I have performed medical tests after yesterday’s defeat. The MRI shows a grade 2 lesion in the iliopsoas of my left leg. Now it’s sports rest and anti-inflammatory physiotherapy. Normal recovery time from 6 to 8 weeks”, confirmed the Spaniard in his official ‘Twitter’ account.
The winner of 22 ‘Grand Slams’ was injured during the eighth game of the second set of his match against McDonald when trying to reach a ball. The man from Manacor quickly realized that he had injured himself while stretching and after finishing the game he received medical attention. Although he was able to finish the match, the top seed and defending champion ended up losing 6-4, 6-4, 7-5.
Nadal already suffered a similar injury precisely in the first ‘big’ of the 2018 season when he played in the quarterfinals against the Croatian Marin Cilic, which then did make him retire from the match in the fifth set. The Spanish tennis player, despite the fact that the diagnosis was milder that time (grade 1), did not play again until April.
Now, he will be out for the Dubai tournament at the end of February and it also seems difficult for him to play the exhibition he had planned with his compatriot Carlos Alcaraz in Las Vegas (United States) on March 5, prior to the start of the American tour with the Masters 1,000 of Indian Wells and Miami, where he could try to return.
