MADRID, 18 Dic. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Madrid coach Quique Sánchez Flores will coach Sevilla FC until 2025, after the Andalusian club and the coach have reached an agreement for his incorporation, which will make him the replacement for the dismissed Diego Alonso and which will seat him on the bench now Tuesday in the EA Sports LaLiga match against Granada.
Saturday's defeat against Getafe at the Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán (0-3) triggered the departure of the Uruguayan coach, who did not come to fruition in these two months, in which the elimination in the Champions League was also completed and without access to the Europa League for the seven-time champion. In LaLiga EA Sports, the team from Nervion is seventeenth with the same 13 points as the first of the relegated teams.
Now, Sánchez Flores becomes Sevilla's third coach so far this season, which began with José Luis Mendilibar, who helped win the Europa League last year, at the helm.
The new Sevilla coach began his career as a coach by directing the Real Madrid youth team in 2009, a club in which he had previously been a player, and his first experiences on the bench in the elite took him to Getafe, Valencia and Benfica, achieving in the Portuguese club its first title with the 2009 League Cup.
Subsequently, he signed for Atlético de Madrid for two seasons, with whom he managed to win a Europa League and a European Super Cup, also reaching a Copa del Rey final in the same year, 2010, which he lost against, precisely, Sevilla.
After a stint in the United Arab Emirates to manage first, for two seasons, Al-Ahli, and then Al-Ain, in the 2014-15 season, he returned to Getafe, before starting a new project at English side Watford during a full season.
He also later played for RCD Espanyol and Shanghai Shenhua of the Chinese Super League. His last two experiences are two returns, first to Watford to direct 12 games in 2019-20 and, later, to Getafe, to command the blue team a total of 66 games between 2021-22 and 2022-23 .
