Queen Sofia thrilled with the water polo team’s victory at the Games after the royal family’s ‘no-show’ in Mallorca

The Queen Sofia has packed her bags. While the rest of the royal family was creating a smokescreen and leaving Mallorca to enjoy a holiday away from the media spotlight, the emeritus has headed to Paris to cheer on the athletes of the Spanish delegation on the penultimate day of the Games.

Queen Sofia’s first stop in the French capital was at the Paris La Defense Arena, where the women’s water polo team beat Australia in the Olympic final with a score of 9-11.

“Third time’s the charm! The Olympic #GOLD belongs to our women’s water polo team! The road was hard, but your team spirit made you reach glory. You have made history. Thank you for your immeasurable dedication!“, they wrote from the x account (formerly Twitter) of the Royal House.

Before watching Miki Oca’s team win, Felipe VI’s mother enjoyed a few days with her family on the Balearic island. Last Tuesday at midday, the emeritus enjoyed an afternoon of shopping in Palma in the company of Queen Letizia, Princess Leonor and Infanta Sofia.

Although Queen Sofia has joined several of the royal family’s plans so far this summer, the ailments that come with age are inevitable. During a walk with Letizia, Leonor and Sofia, the emeritus stumbled when entering an establishment. Fortunately, Queen Sofia’s accident was just a scare, as she reacted in time and did not fall.
