Puente Romano (Marbella) will host the Spain-Mexico ‘qualifier’ of the Billie Jean King Cup

MADRID, 19 Ene. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Puente Romano Tennis Club in Marbella (Málaga) will host the ‘Qualifier’ round of the Billie Jean King Cup 2023 –the main tournament for women’s countries– that Spain will play against Mexico on April 14 and 15, in search of the ticket for the Finals this year.

The FITUR Tourism Fair held in Madrid welcomed the announcement of the agreement reached by the Royal Spanish Tennis Federation (RFET) with the Junta de Andalucía, the Marbella City Council and the Malaga Provincial Council.

The president of the RFET, Miguel Díaz, presented the agreement accompanied by the Minister of Tourism, Culture and Sports of the Junta de Andalucía, Arturo Bernal; the delegate of the Junta de Andalucía in Malaga, Gemma del Corral; the deputy mayor and sports delegate of Marbella, Manuel Miguel Cardeña; and the Spanish captain, Anabel Medina.

It will be the second confrontation between the two countries after the only precedent held in the first round of the 1981 World Group played in Tokyo. Spain has qualified for the 2023 Billie Jean King Cup by Gainbridge Finals in the last two editions.
