Olympique de Marseille suffered to defeat Troyes 1-0, who faced a team rescued by Spanish Pol Lirola, author in the last minutes of the only goal by the men led by Argentine coach Jorge Sampaoli with whom they settled in the fourth place.
A great play by Dimitri Payet, who enabled Lirola to go head-to-head, allowed Olympique Marseille to score three important points after having added a victory in the previous four league games.
However, Marseille has a pending match, which was suspended the previous day at Lyon’s ground when Payet was hit by a bottle thrown by a fan.
Troyes, which remains in 17th place and in the fight not to be relegated, signed a tough and conservative game from which they almost got some revenue. Until the 62nd minute, when Pape Gueye tested the reflexes of goalkeeper Gauthier Gallon, Marseille did not get too dangerously close to Troyes’ goal.
Shortly after, the Polish Arkadiusz Milik also found a good intervention from Gallon after a header and, finally, it was Lirola who got it right. The third time was the charm and the Spanish defender gave Olympique Marseille three points with his first goal of the course, the third since arriving in France and the sixth of his career.
